Investigator User Guide

While commercial forensic tools are incredible at simplifying the tracing process, there are a number of free resources available to start investigating. Even if you hope to gain access to commercial tools, manual tracing will teach you the fundamentals of crypto investigation like no tool can.

The Process
Easy as 1-2-3

We have divided resources into three categories to consolidate the sites you need at whatever stage of the investigation you find yourself. (1) Start by investigating the wallet address to identify which blockchain it is operating on, what assets the wallet currently holds, and what other wallet addresses it interacts with. (2) Use visualization tools in conjunction with  explorers to document and illustrate the path of your targeted assets. (3) Finally, once you identify an off-ramp exchange, get the information you need to identify the account holder, and identify the disposition of the stolen assets.

One

Block Explorers

(Trace Crypto)

By design, most crypto-currency transactions are transparent and can be traced via open-source explorers.

Two

Visualization

(Chart Crypto)

It is important to illustrate trace paths to articulate your findings and stay organized.

Three

Exchange Guidance

(Seize Crypto)

Locating an exchange is the first big break. Now you need to serve the appropriate process to the correct place and obtain the records you need.
