Blockchain Basics

Ever find yourself wondering about any of these questions? What is crypto currency and why does it have value? What is a blockchain and why are there different ones? Are crypto transactions possible to track? We can answer these and more in our Blockchain Basics training. This is available as a full day in-person or virtual training.
Crypto Asset Tracing
Prerequisite: Blockchain Basics (or equivalent knowledge)

This two day course assists investigators to "follow the money". All crypto transactions leave a permanent immutable record. Unlike traditional financial investigations, you do not need to waste time to subpoena bank records in order to get started. Students will create their own wallets, conduct transactions, and view them on the public blockchain to obtain a deeper understanding of available records. Students will navigate distributed exchanges, bridges, and learn to follow assets through these obfuscation techniques. Students will be presented with various tracing methods to make sense of complicated money flows that can be articulated to a court. Additionally, students will be provided with a trial license of a forensic tool to contrast the process of open-source tracing with that of a forensic tool.
Advanced Law Enforcement Topics
Prerequisite: Crypto Asset Tracing (or equivalent knowledge)

Simply understanding the way transactions flow on the blockchain may not be enough to identify and articulate that the wallet addresses are acting in concert as a money laundering network. To accomplish this, we will cover on-chain behaviors and heuristics used to identify common ownership of seemingly disconnected wallet addresses. We will cover the legal process by which to obtain exchange records, how to decipher the records returned, and ultimately the technical and legal processes for successfully seizing and/or forfeiting virtual assets. Additionally, we review wallet management and crypto custody procedures as well as general policy considerations.
Cryptocurrency Investigations Academy

Our flagship course, this comprehensive five-day training equips both new and experienced investigators with the essential skills to combat cryptocurrency-related crimes. Participants will learn the fundamentals of blockchain technology, hands-on tracing of crypto transactions, and the use of advanced forensic tools (including a trial commercial license). The course covers key areas such as crypto money laundering, wallet management, legal processes for obtaining VASP records, strategies for prosecuting crypto crimes and recovering assets via seizure for victims and forfeiture for agencies. With practical exercises and real-world case studies, this course ensures you're fully prepared to tackle the unique challenges of modern cryptocurrency investigations. This course culminates in a mock investigation to bring these skills together and additionally, students are encouraged to bring real life cases to leave with real-world actionable results.
